Maintain the Fleeting Beauty.

“物以稀为贵” is a Chinese idiom which means “scarcity tells the price”. Human keep searching, obtaining and plundering the rarest and strangest materials to produce “luxury”, which could even be sourced from the teeth or saliva of animals. Glacier, as the purest and rarest natural resource on the planet, leads our journey to re-identify “luxury” from Iceland…

Technology & Methods

Based on bioplastic recipe, gelatin, agar and sodium alginate are mixed with glycerine in certain proportion to make bio-degradable and sustainable bioplastic materials to simulate the texture of diamond. 3D modeling and printing are also adopted in this project providing a futuristic design method to produce the jewelry products.

Bioplastic : Research on Sustainable Innovative Materials

This essay aims to translate the term sustainability into bioplastic-based material innovation and explore its potential application to fashion and textile design. Through a series of experiments on the formula, texture and design of bioplastics, the study demonstrates a guideline to designers on innovating bioplastic materials and seeks potential application in the fashion and textile design contexts. The experiment process and research outcome has been published to The Textile Bioengineering and Informatics Society (TBIS) 2021 and Journal of Fiber Bioengineering and Informatics (JFBI).

This project is also selected as the finalist artwork promoting sustainability and environmental issues within the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).
